Where were you at before starting Small Steps to Wholefoods?
Just at the beginning of our journey. I had started to cut out preservatives from the family diet (as much as my husband would allow lol!
What made you take the plunge?
My 7yr old daughter just doesn’t go to sleep. She is regularly still up at 10.30pm (awake but in her room) and just doesn’t know how to fall asleep. My husband and I were at our wits end trying to get her to fall asleep and with her sharing a room with her 3yr old sister and a new baby in the house we needed to try something different.
What were the most important things you learnt through the program?
Everyone is on a learning curve and you aren’t the only one who didn’t know and you aren’t the only one just starting out.
What did you love most about it?
I loved waking up to a new short video to keep me motivated.
Loved that the weeks were broken up into Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner & Snacks. So easy to know what we were ‘working’ on – okay so my kids haven’t transitioned over to no cereal fully but i’m much happier that i know have the knowledge and ideas about what works best for them.
How would you say your life has changed since participating in Small Steps?
Massive. Weirdly enough i have stopped biting my nails (a habit i’ve had since i was a kids!) I’ve just also completed the break through program to learn even more. I’ve completely cut preservatives out of my diet and mainly out of the kids (except when dad is in control of food he’s yet to be converted) and I used to be someone who drank a coke zero a day. We are eating organic fruit and veg as much as we can and I’m buying grass fed beef!!! I would never have thought I’d ever be someone who would buy organic. I was always a ‘what a load of rubbish organic is’ type of girl. I now love going to our local farmers market and best of all miss 7 yesterday commented that there was no fruit plate when we went to a playdate yesterday.
Any advice for those who are considering starting their journey?
Yes its scary and so many people know so much more than you but don’t let that stop you – you’ll only learn once you start yourself. Give it a go and just do what you are comfortable doing. We’re not perfect but we do what i’m happy with!
